01/16/09 - E-Verify Requirement Postponed
The federal government has postponed a requirement for government contractors to use the E-verify system to check the eligibility of their employees to work in the U.S. until February 20th. This requirement was originally set to go into effect on January 15th. This push back is due to a federal lawsuit filed December 23rd by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other business groups. The suit contends that the government does not have the authority to make E-Verify mandatory for contractors.
